David Clegg’s Bio
David Clegg, founder of CEO Partners, has a highly diversified background as a commercial banker; business owner and manager; not-for-profit executive; consultant and coach to entrepreneurial/owner-managed businesses; and as an executive coach to senior leaders of large multi-national corporations.
Clegg began his career approving consumer credit transactions for a Chicago department store chain in 1970 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1973, he joined National Boulevard Bank as a consumer lender and soon transitioned to commercial lending, where he worked exclusively with privately-held businesses. In 1976, he moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where he worked for two separate financial institutions; the last as Senior Vice President of all lending activities for a community bank. In 1982, he joined a company he had financed since start-up as its President and 20% owner to help the company shift its focus from contract product development to introducing technology-related products under its own banner. While this venture didn’t produce the level of success anticipated, Clegg learned much about all aspects of managing and operating a business.
In 1985, he joined a not-for-profit in Indianapolis, Indiana, to help support the development and expansion of the new and emerging business sector in the state. He served as President of this organization from 1989 until 1991, when he left to form his own consulting practice working with private companies in the areas of business/strategic planning and financing alternatives. In 1996, Clegg became affiliated with TEC – The Executive Committee (now Vistage), where he started and facilitated two peer groups of company owners. In 1999, he separated from TEC and started CEO Partners, continuing to manage and operate a business owner peer group. Currently, he works individually with 12 to 15 private business owners in the Central Indiana market to assist them in achieving their goals and objectives.
In 2006, Clegg expanded his consulting practice to include working with senior level executives on leadership development through programs conducted by The London Business School for Nestle. Since then, he has coached 40+ Nestle leaders. In addition, he has worked with The London Business School on programs for Japan Tobacco International and SABIC (Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Corporation). His work with senior leaders expanded to LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) in 2016. All his senior leadership assignments have involved the use of 360 Degree review instruments to help executives understand the perceptions of their performance from others in their organizations and to help them craft and implement career development plans.
Clegg is certified to conduct 360 Degree reviews using The Profilor® from Personnel Decisions International Corporation and the Discovery Leadership Profile™ and the Emerging Leadership Profile™ from MHS Assessments. During his career, he has developed and presented numerous programs, seminars, and training sessions covering a wide range of business topics for organizations including Robert Morris Associates, the Indiana and Illinois CPA Societies, the Indianapolis Bar Association, the Indiana Business Plan Forum, Premier FastTrac®, and ProfitAbility®.
